Society, RVUCC AWARD (Reverse VUCC)
Recent accomplishments
As of 8-13-2008 I completed working the lower 48 states on 2 meters.
Oregon and Washington were the last 2.
1st Southeastern VHF Society Worked all of EM award single
band 2 meters.
WSJT
I
have been
using WSJT by Joe Taylor K1JT
(THANKS JOE !!) for meteor scatter for some time now. WSJT is an amazing program.
There are several modes included in the
sofware. FSK441 and JT6M (6 meters) for meteor scatter.
JT65 for weak signal tropo and EME. To download WSJT go to
http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/
BEFORE USING
WSJT READ THE
MANUAL !!
NEVER USE THESE MODES ON REGULAR SSB OR CW CALLING FREQUENCIES !!
50.260 and 144.140 ARE THE CURRENT 6
AND 2 METER CALLING
FREQUENICES FOR FSK441 METEOR SCATTER.
Accurate computer clock time
is critical to these modes. Dimension 4 or
some other program is a must for keeping the clock correct.
Below are some very useful
sites for the hints and kinks of WSJT
operation. Thanks to these people also for their excellent information.
WA5UFH W8WN
PingJockey Is the page set
up by
N0UK Chris Cox (THANKS CHRIS
!!) to be used for setting up schedules for WSJT. There are
seperate pages for JT65 tropo and EME, as well as a relief page for
general chat.
Following are some wave files
of the different modes. Copy these to
your desktop or to your favorite place and then open it with WSJT by
clicking "File", "Open" and open the file you just copied.
Meteor scatter wave files. click
and listen or save it and decode
with WSJT.

Both files
are from our 144 mhz QSO, I also worked
him on 50 mhz. 1152 miles from
me, his signal was good at the beginning and as you can see, it got
better as time went on. Have a listen and look at the second wav file..
Nice signal. These were the best I got from him, but he was very easy
to copy here.
WB2FKO/R DM66
on 144 mhz during September VHF Contest 2003 Mike did
alot of rovering in some rare grids.. He does a great job !!
Propagation
Aurora
- I suggest looking in a
ARRL
Handbook and do a little
reading on the subject. I will try to very quickly give some help here.
If the K index is 3
or above
look for Aurora (Au) . I have worked 2
meter Au with the K index of 3, of course higher is better. Working Au
is like shooting bank shots in pool. You are bouncing your signal off
the Auroral curtain.. So point in a northerly direction. I have worked
stations at beam headings as far south as 100 degrees and 275 degrees.
The strongest signal point may move from time to time. If you are
trying to work someone to the east of you most usually you will need to
be pointed somewhere to the east side of due north and west of due
north for someone west of you.
If trying sideband
speaking
slowly and enunciating well helps.
Below are some MP3
files for
you to listen to with descriptions of the
file.
2mssbAu --This file is from 2
meters. Not sure of the station. You can pick
out a few words if you listen close. Or as I say " Have funny ears".
W0VB2mcwAu -- This file is W0VB
Terry in
Minnesota EN34. I always expect to hear him as he likes working Aurora
and has a good station.
At the begining of
the file I
was pointed about 35 degrees, I then
pointed my antenna directly at him about 345 degrees. You will notice
that you can begin to hear his CW tone fairly clear. Then a station
began to call him that I was hearing weak on tropo and some on Aurora.
Terry apparently didn't hear him well and sent
QRZ.
At that point I pointed the beam back to 35 degrees and you again hear
his signal on Aurora only. This signal is strong, but have heard much
stonger from Terry and others as well.
I hope this at least
lets some
hear what it sounds like.
